If your child will not be coming to school on a particular day, please call the office before 9 am, leaving your name, the name of the child, the reason for the absence and if homework is requested. If homework is requested, state who will be responsible for picking up the work, i.e., a brother, sister or friend or if it will be picked up outside the office after 2 p.m. Assignments made on the day(s) of absence will be accepted one day late for every day absent. Upon return to school, a note stating the reason for the absence is to be sent to the homeroom teacher.
If your child needs to be dismissed early from school for doctor/dentist appointments, please send a Travel Note to the homeroom teacher ahead of time. The parent or guardian must sign the child out and pick up the child at the school office. The sign out book is in the vestibule. A child will be marked tardy or absent one-half day for appointments during the school day.
In the event of hazardous weather or other emergencies, the school will be closed. Closings will be posted on the web page at www.stjosephdg.org. Radio stations WBBM (780), WMAQ (670), WGN (720), WLS (890) and TV stations NBC (5) WGN (9) and FOX (32) will be notified. The Parent Forum phone tree will also be used to notify all families.
While we consider family time important, we encourage vacations during summer and school breaks. Missing teacher instruction during valuable class time can be stressful for your student. Assignments will be given before/after the student’s absence at the discretion of the teacher. It is the responsibility of the student to request, complete and turn in missing assignments and tests.
